On the imminent birth of my Daughter

I wake early, before light,
A tingling in my stomach
Your spirit waking me from sleep
I cannot bear to be parted from you longer
You who I have never seen
Sleeping warm in your Mother's womb
Soon you will be with us
Sleeping in my arms
Wrapped in love against the Autumn chill
Bearing in your soul memories from when the world was ice
When you woke each day in the arms of cold and hunger
and fed your children on snow and fire.
Now the ice has gone
Rivers of blue water flow, green trees sway in the golden sun
Come: live with us in our pleasant land
Come: share our food, our hearth, our beds
Come: live your life amongst us
